SSHS Strategic Plan Early Childhood – Element 5
Background: APS Safe Schools Building Up Successful Students (BUSS) Initiative
The A.P.S. BUSS is a four year project with five elements:
- Increase safety within Albuquerque Public Schools;
- Reduce and prevent substance abuse among APS students;
- Provide increased behavioral, social and emotional supports to APS youth;
- Increase mental health services to APS students;
- Ensure Albuquerque children are ready for school.
Key project strategies of the A.P.S. BUSS project are to:
- close gaps in community services;
- effect system change to improve access to resources, policies, programs and services;
- implement an integrated comprehensive community‐wide plan to create safe, respectful drug free school environments and
- to promote pro‐social skills and healthy childhood development.
